Artist's Description

A beautiful Siberian, or Amur Tiger chills in the water at the Indianapolis, Indiana Zoo. Who says cats are afraid of the water. This guy, a five year old male, isn't afraid of anything, except poachers. Also known as Panthera tigris altaica, this species of big cat was on the verge of extinction in the 1940s. There were only about 40 left due to extensive hunting in the Russian Far East. However, the number began increasing when Russia granted the tiger full protection. The species' number is rising. While there are around 450 tigers in the wild, they still need help.

About Steve Gass

Steve Gass

Hi, and welcome to my world and thanks for visiting my galleries! I am a transplanted New Englander living in the Midwest. A photograph is a moment in time that will never be back. That's what I love about this art form. My favorite time to shoot is at dawn. Favorite places are rural and natural areas. I am thrilled that I can share the beauty of this country with others. Beauty can be in many different forms, it is "in the eye of the beholder". I hope you see a few photos here that you like. If you have any requests for variations on images here I may be able to produce them. For more info you can email me at: gasstang1@yahoo.com.
