Description
A cloudless sky greets the day with a view of Thatcher Island off the coast of Rockport, Massachusetts. Due to the large number of shipwrecks in colonial New England the first light was erected in 1771, even before the revolution. In 1860 the then two lights were upgraded with more modern equipment. Today the northern end of the fifty acre island is a nature preserve.
