Description
The state bird of Indiana and six other states, The Northern Cardinal is one of the easiest to identify, the male's bright red feathers are a dead giveaway. The female has the same shape, but her colors are a more muted yellowish green. This guy was found at Ritchey Woods in Fishers, Indiana.
The northern cardinal is a bird in the genus Cardinalis; it is also known colloquially as the redbird, common cardinal or just cardinal. It can be found in southern eastern Canada, through the eastern United States from Maine to Minnesota to Texas, and south through Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala.
